THE life-saving volunteers who perform mountain rescues on the Brecon Beacons will be in Hereford on Saturday, raising money for the service and offer safety advice on hiking in the area's hills.

Longtown Mountain Rescue Team has had five call-outs in the last 10 days alone.

Made up of a team of volunteers in the area who are on call 24/7 to help missing or injured people, LMRT is a registered charity almost entirely dependent on donations.

“Saturday is an important day for the team,” said LMRT’s Graeme Adkin.

“We have had such good will from the city and it’s great to be able to get out and meet so many people.

“We will be collecting donations but we will also be there to talk about the work we do in the mountains and countryside around the town.”

Members of the team – which covers East Wales, the Welsh borders and Herefordshire – will be in Hereford talking to shoppers on Saturday.
