THE dispersal sale of the Gomer Hereford herd has been held at Hereford Livestock Market.

The sale took place for Tim and Alice Amery and Family, Llandeilo, Carmarthen, and met with solid trade throughout.

The sale topper came by the way of the four-and-a-half-year old cow, Gomer Precious Pansy F30, along with her five-month-old heifer calf which sold for 4,300 gns purchased by breeder Leslie Jackson, Sparkwood Herefords, Tring, Hertfordshire.

Precious Pansy is by the successful show bull, Mara Chieftain, one of the founder herd sires for the Gomer herd.

Top price family pair were the five-year-old incalf cow Phocle Marina 335, selling for 2,300 gns to Cathal McGrath, Co. Meath, Eire, and her six-month-old heifer calf Gomer Marina L77 selling for 2,900 gns to David Jones, of Phocle Herefords, Ross-on-Wye.

Seven-year-old Phocle Dowager 282D was purchased for 2,300 gns. by another newcomer to the breed, P.W. Smith of Peterchurch.

Mr. Smith also purchased a further two cows and calves, 10-year-old Border Queen B80, with her heifer calf for 1,800 gns, and seven-year-old Haven Prunella 40th with her heifer calf for 2,200 gns.

S. Chilman of Kinsham Herefords, Presteigne, paid 3,000 gns for the three-year-old first calver, Gomer Kate H95, along with her six-month-old bull calf.

Adding to his recently founded herd, Mr. R.J. Verdin, of Garnstone Herefords, Weobley, purchased a four-year-old cow, Gomer Precious Pansy G69, along with her bull calf for 2,200 gns and another four-year-old cow Gomer Diamdem G73 with her heifer calf for 2,900 gns.

The sale results were:

27 Cows (in or with calf) to average £2,808.55.

Five incalf Heifers to average £2,656.50.

Two Bulling Heifers to average £1,916.25.

One Stock Bull to average £2,100.

Seven young bulls to average £1,320.

There were 42 lots to average of £2,483.
