A TONGUE-in-cheek video of two OAPS out drinking in Hereford has been released to encourage youngsters to be safe on nights out.

The YouTube video, Agatha & Cecily PARTY, features two mature ladies on a night out, with one getting a H.A.N.D ban from licensed premises in the town.

It aims to get across safety messages to the age group 17 to 25, such as don't drink and drive and don't drink too much before going out.

Dan Guerche, general manager at Play nightclub, said: "The purpose is to make young people think about their nights out.

"It stands out using more mature characters. There are ten messages in there- all done in a fun, tongue-in-cheek way.

"We are trying to be innovative and different."

The video by Pea Shoot Media was sponsored by The Herefordshire Community Safety Partnership in conjunction with the H.A.N.D pubwatch scheme and Bottletop- an alcohol awareness website.

Anita Sancha, 64, plays Agatha and Laurie-Anne Hatcher, 55, plays Cecily. They work together to produce films that raise awareness of environmental and social issues.

Inspector Nick Semper, from Hereford police, said the night time scene in Hereford has never been as safe as it is now and they are working with groups such as H.A.N.D, Bottletop and street pastors to make sure it carries on.

He added: "Historically, public information films have been a bit tired. The object of this exercise is to get the message across while appealing to youngsters."
