LEOMINSTER is set to celebrate St Edfrith in a series of events this weekend.

The weekend will explore the legacy of Edfrith who journeyed to Leominster from Lindisfarne in AD 660.

A talk by Dr Clare Stancliffe, an ecclesiastical historian at Durham University, will take place on Saturday (October 25) at the Priory Church at 4.15pm.

The talk – Heresy, an Archbishop and the Synod of Whitby – will discuss the 'Celtic' versus 'Roman' debate and how its repercussions might have affected the Leominster area.

The talk will be preceded by a guided tour of Leominster Priory at 3pm, and afternoon tea at 3.45pm.

On Sunday, people can join a pilgrim walk for St Edfrith's Feast Day.

It leaves the ancient church of St Cosmas and St Damian in Stretford at 10am.

During the middle ages, pilgrims flocked to Leominster Priory for St Edfrith’s feast day and the four-day fair in the town that followed it.

Those taking part are asked to take a packed lunch and to be aware that the route includes some stiles and rough fields.

It will return to Leominster for tea before reflective Festal Evensong.

Free tickets are available from Leominster Tourist Information and The Forbury Chapel and booking is essential.
