ROSS-ON-WYE VAGA PROBUS CLUB - The strengthening membership levels at Vaga Probus Club were again in evidence when there was a record attendance of 39 members at the club’s recent annual general meeting. Outgoing president Mike Thompson reflected upon another highly effective year, which saw membership reaching its half-century.

Mike’s final responsibility was to congratulate Peter Thacker on becoming Vaga’s first active honorary life member. This was in recognition of more than 25 years of dedicated service to the club, which Peter played a key role in establishing in 1988.

For the next 12 months, Vaga’s members will be in the capable care of Andrew Talbot-Ponsonby, who becomes president.

Andrew has a highly experienced committee at his disposal. Brian Donald has looked after secretarial duties for the past five years, members are fortunate and value having Paul Mason as their influential social secretary and website wizard for the third year running.

With Rod Barker again in charge of the selection of guest speakers, there is much for members to look forward to.

Keith Ray, who joined the committee in 2004 and has undertaken various roles during that time, will continue to manage the club’s finances, aided by honorary auditor Don Hunter.

Press relations will be overseen by Peter Attwood who becomes vice president with a newcomer Peter Reynolds coming on board to ensure the committee is not short on freshness and new ideas.

With two new club members being inducted later this month, this suggests that Vaga’s culture in fostering relationships through fellowship continues to be in demand.

The club also values the stewardship of Sara Jones and her team at Ross Conservative Club where meetings take place on the second and fourth Tuesday mornings of each month.
