THE Llanbadarn Girls, Frances Jones, Katie and Annie Fairclough, Katie, Jodie and Ffion Price accompanied by Andrew Thomas sang at a concert organised by the Knighton Macmillan Cancer Support group last weekend. The concert attracted a large number of people to the church hall, and raised over £400 for Macmillan. The compere for the afternoon was Philip Price. Jean Price, a member of the Knighton Macmillan group, thanked the girls for their amazing performance and everyone who came along and supported or helped them on the day. Jean also told everyone that the Knighton group was now in its 43rd year and had recently lost their founder member and president Gladys Vogel who had done so much work over the years to raise money for the cancer charity.

The Llanbadarn Girls all from the Llanbadarn Fynydd area started singing as a group after four of them sang in Llanbadarn Church about two years ago. Not long after, two more girls joined, and with their musical director and pianist Andrew Thomas, they meet regularly to practise and learn new songs. The youngest is 13 and the eldest 22. Two attend Newtown High school, two Llandrindod Wells, Ffion Price attends Builth Wells High School and will be playing ‘Sandy’ in the musical Grease at the Wye Side Theatre in November, another attends Coleg Powys, Newtown and Frances Jones runs her own catering company.

Despite school, college and work commitments, the girls have been doing more and more concerts many for charities. In October they are now fully booked and will be singing in Shrewsbury, Newtown, Llanbadarn Fynydd and other places. All the girls are members of Young Farmers and have all done well in YFC performances. The Llanbadarn Girls first appeared in Knighton in April this year when they were third in the Knighton’s Got Talent competition. The girls are hoping to release a CD in time for Christmas with all proceeds going to charities of their choice. For more information contact Andrew on 07554065902.
