PLANS for two new superstores in Leominster — both scaled down versions of original schemes rejected by county planners earlier this year — are to be debated tomorrow.

In what could be described as ‘D-day’ for Leominster, Herefordshire Council’s planning committee will consider whether to grant permission for two new stores on Mill Street and Southern Avenue.

FH Dales was refused permission to build an 85,000sq ft Sainsbury’s store on its Mill Street site in January but the company is now asking the committee to consider new plans.

Now bidding for a 36,000 square feett supermarket, the applicant has dropped both its request for a petrol station and plans for up to 50 new homes.

Meanwhile, Morbaine Ltd had its original application for a food store on the current site of Thomas Panels on Southern Avenue, turned down on the same day.

But the firm is seeking permission for a revised plan of a store of 35,000 square feet — a reduction of 20 per cent.

The planning meeting takes place tomorrow at The Shirehall in Hereford from 10am.
