THE dying art of stone walling is being kept alive in Presteigne, with a conservation charity offering training in the rural skill this weekend at Discoed Church.
Volunteers will learn how mix and use lime mortar, and how to assess walls for damage as well as choosing and shaping stone and rebuilding walls.
Andrea Gilpin, who is organising the weekend, said: “Stone walling is a rural skill that we need to keep alive.
“We have held many of these weekends which are always fully booked.
It is win-win all round – participants learn skills and gain experience and churchyard walls are rebuilt in the traditional style, ready to weather another few hundred years!”
The course is being organised by The Churchyard Conservation Charity, Caring for God’s Acre and tools and refreshments will be available.
