WHEN the Gloucestershire Rural Community Council (GRCC) launched its annual Village of the Year Competition members of the Shop at Bromesberrow decided to enter, and submitted a form. What a delightful surprise when staff were informed that Bromsberrow had been short-listed for the Vibrant Village of 2014 Award, and that the judges from the GRCC were to visit the shop. A team of volunteers met to discuss strategy to showcase the best of what they do and how they interact with the community. Invitations were issued and a shop "makeover" followed to ensure everything would be perfect on the appointed day.

There was great excitement on the day when more than 80 people joined the fun from all sectors of the community and local organisations, including gardening club, school, church, village hall, local council, county council district council, bowls club, and many other representatives. Beverages and delicious refreshments were served and the two judges, Lesley Archer and Mike Heenanm from the GRCC signed the now immensely popular mural area, designated for Bromesberrow School's Art Project.

The results won't be known until September 10, when the announcements will be made at Gloucester Cathedral and the community is aware of some stiff competition, from 14 other shops and 20 entries altogether. Whatever the outcome, the process been a triumph for the community and organisers are grateful to all who joined together and made this such a successful event.
