UMBRELLAS were up and coats worn as people in Ledbury braved the rain for the town's annual carnival on Bank Holiday Monday.

Lili Pedlingham won the best overall prize for her Alice in Underland outfit, while she also scooped the class four prize for best bicycle, pram or hand propelled bicycle or working group.

Mitch Randall won the best individual senior prize as the Mad Hatter and Bill and Ben were declared the winners in the best individual junior category.

The latter was also chosen as the best children's float.

Bea Bowers came top in the children's fancy dress category for youngsters up to age eight, with Queal Blanford winning the eight to 16-year-old category.

Sylvia Mills won the senior fancy dress prize for her 'off the planet' outfit, Clare Dolan's '40 years of the Ledbury Carnival' was the best equine entry and Pughs won the best small float prize for re-enacting classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Best large float was Ledbury Community Choir's 'flower power'.
