TO celebrate the second birthday of Knighton skate and BMX park a party/jam was held in the park. At the event there was a bouncy castle, vintage cars, refreshments raffle, live music and the main attraction the competitions. The competitions were to find the best scooter, skateboard and BMX riders. The results were scooter: 1st Kieran Aspley (Knighton), 2nd Jacob Broome and 3rd Oliver Powell. Best skateboard rider was Keith Eastom (Shrewsbury), 2nd David Bennett, 3rd Zach Lewis. Zach from Knighton was also the BMX champion with Tyler-John Day, 2nd and Connor Reynolds 3rd. Before the event there was doubt over whether Zach could compete in the BMX competition after his bikes sprocket snapped during practice. He managed to find a replacement and get his bike fixed shortly before the start. On behalf of the skate park committee Mike Conway thanked everyone who helped get things ready for the event and helped on the day, all the sponsors including businesses, clubs and organisations, the ongoing sponsors and all those who donated raffle prizes. Lynsey Price then thanked Mike for helping on the day and for setting up all the electrics. The main judge of the BMX and scooter competitions Keith Eastom from Faction Bike Co, Shrewsbury said “The judges were looking for competitors who made the best use of the park, the height of the jumps and the variety of moves”. He continued by saying “I was here last year and I can see what a good investment the park has been to the town, youngsters who were beginners last year are now very experienced riders, everything about this park has been a success”. BMX champion 17 year old Zach said “The park gives me something to do, keeping me off the streets and it’s great to see all the little kids down here today all having ago”.
