THE final donations have now been collected in and the volunteer committee that organised Cancer Research UK Relay For Life Marches and Mid Wales is delighted to announce the grand total raised; an amazing £28,415.21.

Relay For Life is an overnight family event that brings everyone in the community together to show that united we are stronger than cancer.

The relay was held at John Beddoes campus sports field in Presteigne on July 12 and 13. Members of the 16 teams that took part in the Relay For Life took it in turns to walk the track for a full 24 hours, with at least one member from each team on the track at all times.

Relay For Life celebrates cancer survivors and the first lap of the track was walked by 29 cancer survivors and their care givers. For some, this took an enormous amount of effort and they were clapped and cheered on by the team members and visitors.

The Relay For Life event is the culmination of the participants' fundraising in aid of Cancer Research UK. Teams raised funds in any way they wished leading up to the relay; holding coffee mornings, cake sales, a darts night, a vintage tea party and even a clay pigeon shoot. The 199 team members then all came together for the final celebration of their fundraising at the Relay For Life event.

The committee would like to thank everyone that took part in the relay and all those who gave their support; without whom the event would not have been the success that it was. A fantastic achievement for the Marches and Mid Wales, particularly as this is the first time Relay for Life has been held in this area.
