A LEINTWARDINE cake business has struck gold with a product inspired by a popular Hereford tipple.
Cariad Cakes' Hereford apple cider cake scooped a gold at the recent Great Taste Awards – organised by the Guild of Fine Food.
Entries into the awards are blind tested and by the time a product has earned a gold it will have been assessed by at least three different teams.
Dave and Kay Fletcher, the husband and wife team behind Cariad Cakes, said: "We are delighted to receive this award from the Guild of Fine Food. The Hereford Apple Cider Cake uses locally sourced Bramley apples, free range eggs from Clun and Pembridge-based Dunkertons Premium Organic Cider.
"We're very proud of what we've achieved as a company since we began way back in 2002. We moved across to Leintwardine two years ago and have found it an incredibly inspiring place to both live and work. It’s all a bit of a dream but has been a fantastic boost”.
