A ROSS-on-Wye man has been handed a community order after harassing his wife with unwanted phone calls.

William Davies, from Copse Cross Street, had been married to Pamela Davies for 25 years, but Hereford Magistrates Court heard that the couple separated due to the husband's alcohol problems.

However, prosecutor Jackie Rogers said Davies tried desperately to rekindle the relationship.

"Since Pamela left him, the defendant constantly called her, causing her to be scared," said Ms Rogers.

"Police officers spoke to him on May 13 and gave him a verbal warning.

"Since then, he has since called her on the home number and mobile phone.

"She indicated that she was in fear of the defendant and his capabilities and he will hurt at some point."

Ms Rogers added that police issued Davies with an harassment notice following repeated calls to his wife, but he still tried to talk her and approached her in Ross.

"On July 4, he phoned her mobile phone twice," said Ms Rogers.

"Again, she didn't answer them, but was so shocked by it that she fainted."

Davies admitted that he harassed his wife and made a number of phone calls and approached her in the street, despite being issued with an harassment notice not to engage in those activities.

Chris Morgan, defending, said Davies accepted what he did was wrong.

"He should have realised that it was unwanted," said Mr Morgan.

"We are talking about the lowest level of harassment."

Davies was issued with a four-month supervised community order and told not to contact his wife or enter an address in Ross-on-Wye, unless instructed by his solicitor.
