STEVE Edwards from Newtown has been the musical director of Knighton Town Silver Band since September 2009 but will be retiring at the band's AGM on Tuesday.

Steve has been involved in music-making in Mid Wales since the mid 1970s when he moved to Newtown from his home in South Wales. Since about 1974 Steve has been involved in conducting and trained many young people throughout Powys. He is a competent and experienced cornet player and he has shared his expertise with a whole generation of brass musicians in the Newtown area.

Band Member Gill Wilson said “During Steve's time with Knighton Band he has made rehearsals both challenging and fun. The band will miss him terribly but quite understand his need to retire. We all wish him good health and hope that he will enjoy a more relaxing lifestyle."

Knighton Band are now looking for a replacement musical director. If there are any 'baton wavers' out there who would like to discuss the position and come to meet us, please contact the secretary on 01597 824726 and/or visit our website www.ktsb.org.uk.
