NEW kerbside recycling vehicles will be patrolling the streets of Hay-on-Wye as of late August.

The border town will be among the first in Powys to employ the vehicles, which allow household collections to made in one truck, not the two separate ones currently in use.

The vehicles underwent their first routes in Brecon on Monday (July 21) and will be rolled out across the county, switching all remaining households from bags to boxes.

Barry Thomas, Powys County Council’s leader and cabinet member for waste, said: “The introduction of these new vehicles will enable us to provide a more efficient and effective service and will reduce the number of vehicles being used.

“These changes are required to help us achieve the statutory recycling targets set by Welsh Government and we would like to encourage every resident to make every effort to recycle as much of their waste wherever possible”.
