IF PRINCE George's ears were ringing this week, that is because people were talking about him, at least in Ledbury.

And a ringing welcome was given to the prince, on the occasion of his first birthday, by loyal town crier, Bill "The Bell" Turberfield.

Dressed in his blue "Prince George Regalia", called so with the official permission of Kensington Palace, Mr Turberfield gave a rousing performance under the Market House at noon, on Tuesday, July 22.

Town Council clerical officer, Barbara Stump said: "People stopped to listen, took photographs and applauded enthusiastically afterwards."

Mr Turberfield's address was as follows: "Oyez, Oyez, Oyez, on this Twenty Second day of July in the year of our Lord, Twenty Fourteen, The Town Mayor, Town Council and Citizens of Ledbury in the County of Herefordshire send loyal greetings and birthday wishes to HRH Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, son of their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, celebrating his first birthday.

"Your Royal Highness Prince George, Happy first birthday.God bless them all. God Save the Queen."
