CHILDREN at a Hereford nursery were treated to a very special visit last week.
The very hungry caterpillar was the special guest at Whitecross Day Nursery on Tuesday (July 15) after the centre won a draw to meet the well-known and treasured character.
Donna Crispin, deputy supervisor at the nursery, said: "In March we held an event to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Very Hungry Caterpillar book and to raise money for Action for Children – a charity which supports the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people throughout the UK.
"We had a sponsored obstacle race and a raffle and raised around £600 and because we got the money in early we were entered into a draw to meet the character and were chosen out of 750 nurseries.
"The children loved meeting him – they really enjoyed it."
Kim Izzard from "Action for Children" also popped in to deliver a collection of prizes to the nursery.
