FALKLANDS veteran Simon Weston presented students at Whitecross High School with awards during a prize-giving evening.
Mr Weston also had photographs taken and spent time chatting with sponsors, parents and staff.
"It was such a huge honour to have Simon with us," said headteacher Denise Strutt.
"His speech at the end of the evening was both entertaining and motivating.
"He is an inspiration to all and encouraged our students to have the confidence to excel in whatever field they choose."
Mr Weston was aboard Sir Galahad that was destroyed at Bluff Cove in the Falkland Islands in 1982.
He sustained severe burns and endured years of reconstructive surgery.
The war veteran now does a lot of charity work and was awarded an OBE in 1992.
