A 12-YEAR-old girl from Moreton-on-Lugg said goodbye to her long locks last week to raise funds for a county charity.

Jordan Day, a year-seven pupil at Whitecross High School, decided to go for the chop to raise money for St Michael's Hospice, which has previously cared for members of her family.

She is also donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their own.

Jordan's mum, Vickie Day, said: "It was all her own idea and came as a great surprise to us considering how much she loves her beautiful long hair.

"I think she is such a selfless caring girl and constantly makes us – myself and my husband Jeremy – proud of the great young woman she is growing up to be.

"There were certainly a few tears in the hairdressers."

Jordan has set her sights on completing a charity fundraiser each year now, having already taken part in a sponsored swim last year.

"Because St Michael's Hospice is entirely funded by charity she wants to give them a helping hand," said Mrs Day.

"She's doing great. I thought she would be a bit sad, mourning the loss of her hair but she's braver that I would be that's for sure.

"She was excited to go in on the last day of term and show people her new hairstyle."

Jordan has already smashed her target of £150 but is hoping to raise as much as possible.
