AFTER seven decades of success, Radnor Valley YFC has celebrated its platinum anniversary.

Following months of preparation and hard work, the event to mark the club's 70th anniversary took place in a marquee at Womaston Farm in Walton.

It united members – past and present – along with friends and family.

Charlie Morris, current chairman, said: "The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by past and present members, celebrating the achievements of Radnor Valley YFC (RVYFC) over the past 70 years and share stories on how the club has developed.

"70 years is a significant milestone for the club and the high level of regard by everyone demonstrated this."

Some guests travelled from as far afield as Kent and former club chairmen, secretaries, presidents and members were all invited.

Guests enjoyed a buffet dinner, live band, DJ, memorabilia and speakers while photographer, Ruth Rees, was on hand to capture the event on camera.

Memorabilia on display included minute books, scrapbooks and paper cuttings from the various activities performed by the club since 1944.

The anniversary cake was cut by current chair and the earliest chairman in attendance, Mr Don Graham, who chaired the club in 1945.

Master of ceremonies was past member Richard “Ricky” Hughes, who kept the evening running smoothly and grace was conducted by Haydn Powell.

Following the meal, speakers from over the decades gave an insight into ‘their’ time in the club.

The "best new member" award was handed to Jamie Layton-Morris while the "under-14" award was won by Gemma Morris.

The club is now looking ahead to the summer with a number

of members set to represent Radnorshire at the Royal Welsh Show as well as another bumper 75 years.
