A TEAM of Ledbury hairdressers are set to become regulars at Worcester Race Course, as they set their sights on raising as much money as possible for cancer research.

This was the second year in a row that representatives from Janet's Hair Salon, in New Street, have taken part in the Worcester Race for Life event; and this year they almost doubled their 2013 fund-raising total.

A grand total of £1000 was raised this year by the team for Cancer Research UK, compared to last year's total of £600.

But members of the Janet's Hair Salon squad, who tackled a 5km course on July 6, are no strangers to charity fund-raising, and they have personal reasons for wanting to fund-raising for cancer research.

Salon founder, Janet Jones is a herself a survivor of cancer, and her daughter, salon manager Lisa Beavan, lost two close friend to cancer when she and they were teenagers.

"My nan, Frances Beavan, passed away with cancer about six years ago," she added.

Mrs Beavan, who pushed her mum in a wheelchair around the course, had nothing but praise for the fund-raising team.

She said: "They are all absolutely fantastic and got a real buzz out of it. We now plan to make it an annual event."

But the salon's fund-raising does not stop there.

Last year a coffee morning at the the salon, for Macmillan Cancer Support, raised £100.

And the team plan to host another fund-raising event, including a prize draw, raffle and coffee and cake sale, on Friday September 26 and Saturday September 27.
