TWO men are believed to have been glassed during an altercation in Ross-on-Wye last Friday.

The victims, who are 20 and 21, had been playing football on Rope Walk at 9.30pm when they were approached by another group containing both men and women.

A man from the second group challenged them to a fight, but the first group stated they were not interested.

At this point, a man from the second group picked up a box of beer that the other group were drinking and an altercation broke out.

Two men sustained nasty cuts to their face, which police said are consistent with bring struck with a glass bottle.

The 21-year-old had a deep cut to his right cheek and both needed hospital treatment.

"This appears to be an unprovoked attack involving parties not known to each other," said Detective Sergeant Tim Powell, from Hereford CID.

“The victims suffered serious facial injuries from what is believed to be a bottle and, while one person has already been arrested and is currently on police bail, I would like appeal to anyone who has some knowledge of this assault to get in contact with police as soon as is possible.

“All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence."
