A SCULPTURE has been made by pupils leaving Garway Primary School to commemorate their time at the school.

Using the school 'house' names as inspiration – oak, silver birch, beech and sycamore – the children chose an animal of their choice which were soldered together.

The group worked with local blacksmiths Oldfield Forge Academy to design the sculpture which will sit in the school grounds.

The firm work with learners of all ages and abilities and provide a bespoke programme for schools.

"This is just the start of what will be a very exciting link between our school and a local business," said headteacher Julie Jones.

"Oldfield Forge Academy provides a wonderful opportunity for our children to work alongside blacksmiths in a real forge and learn some of the techniques of this traditional craft."
