A PRIMARY school near Ledbury will close for the next year to allow major work to fix a problem with damp.

Colwall Primary School's 190 pupils will be taught in alternative accommodation elsewhere in the village from September.

The school and Herefordshire Council has stressed the move will "ensure continuity of education".

The exact location of the temporary home is still subject to negotiation.

Parents of children at the school were informed of the plans during a meeting in Colwall Village Hall last night.

“While the news of the move was of course a surprise for parents, we have been able to reassure them of the council, governors and staff efforts to ensure continuity of education for their children," said Jo Davidson, director of children's wellbeing at Herefordshire Council.

"The temporary buildings will be near to the existing school and while precise details cannot be shared yet there were many offers of support from parents and friends of the school to assist with the packing up, moving and unpacking.”
