NOW among the few people ever to leave TV’s John Barrowman speechless, Hereford’s own burger kings the Beefy Boys got the ultimate thumbs up from the exuberant musical star when they cooked for him on BBC’s The One Show last week.

“John Barrowman likes my meat!” one of the Beefy Boys founders, Anthony Murphy, told the hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker and the stage star mumbled through mouthfuls of the their award-winning burgers.

Hot off the heels of a win at Grillstock, the British BBQ world’s premier grilling competition, the six-man Hereford team are heading to Las Vegas to take on the rest of the world.

Legendary hip hop pioneers De La Soul were also on what became a crowded sofa with Mr Barrowman and the Beefy Boys when the show filmed last Wednesday.

On receiving the invite, Mr Murphy – himself part of Hereford hip hop group The Anomalies – took to Facebook to break the news.

He said: “We’ve been lucky enough to be asked onto The One Show to cook some Beefy Boys Burgers tomorrow night, even madder then that De La Soul will be eating them too!!!???!!”

It’s not the first time ‘Mouthmaster Murf’ has shared a stage with rap royalty – The Anomalies have had support slots with Grandmaster Flash and DMC champs The Scratch Perverts.

But since teaming up with Lee Symonds and the Railway Inn’s Daniel Mayo-Evans three years ago, he has been letting his burgers do the spitting.

The Beefy Boys expanded to include Christian Williams, Steve Mcgowan and Chris Williams.

And they needed all their man power last week, with half the team staying in Hereford to cook their Classic Cheesburgers at a pop up at The Jailhouse while the other half were rubbing shoulders with celebs.
