A HEREFORD primary school has been undertaking a project to make maths more fun.

St Martin's Primary School has been running a FunKey maths club every Tuesday.

A group of year eight and nine children from Hereford Academy and year five pupils from St Martins have been helping the youngsters improve their skills.

"Together the youngsters and the mentors work through a passport of targets, which they love to tick off one by one," said project co-ordinator Maggie Steele.

"The atmosphere at the club is fun but purposeful.

"There are no tables and chairs, no pens or books.

"The mentors have been trained to make sure that students are doing lots of physical activity, as it is well known that for many children physical activity can help embed learning."

Hereford MP Jesse Norman visited the school to hand out certificates to pupils who had completed the task.
