A CONSERVATION charity has pulled out of a bid to run Bodenham Lake and challenged the Herefordshire Council to publically clarify its plans for the future of the reserve and nearby Queenswood.

Siren Conservation  withdrew its own plan for Bodenham Lake after the council directed it to work with its preferred partner the community group New Leaf.

Now, Siren says it will focus on assuring the lake and surrounds are protected in perpetuity for people and wildlife.

Already, Siren has been instrumental in setting up the Friends of Bodenham Lake group.

Siren's Sasha Norris said the Friends wanted the council's position clarified at a public open meeting ahead of any asset transfer and answers to uncertainty over New Leaf's ability to run a nature reserve and meet the on-going six figure costs of managing both sites.

Bodenham Lake, the largest area of open water in the county, is up for grabs amongst a host of natural assets the council can longer afford to keep – as reported by the Hereford Times in February.

The council said it was continuing to work with New Leaf as its "preferred partner" with New Leaf, in turn, working with Hereford Nature Trust.

Siren submitted a proposal to manage Bodenham Lake after approaching New Leaf to offering expertise.

As previously reported by the Hereford Times, Siren saw the site as a self-sustaining showcase for all "green" Herefordshire could be and promised "substantial funds” to back its bid.

I lived for 20 years next to Queenswood and the Council was constantly trying to privatise the car park. I now live on Wirral but have suffered 5 years of legal beagle Bill Norman’s **** up on my road here. before he moved to Hereefoirdshire. (Details now removed from Hereford Times Website).

And yes, all 25+ comments about Mr Norman's new £90,000 post have been removed from the Herefordshire Times web site and the whoke thing has gone into "archive". Is someone in the Council feeling a little “upset “about the truth being told out there? It all stinks – he left both Torbay & Wirral with huge pay offs from each place with “no case to answer”.

What on earth was Herefordshire doing employing a man with such a suspect background ?

This has happened before - I don't know if it is because the Hereford Times is embarassed that it is failing to cover important issues like the one you raise, or that it is asked by the council (a major advertiser and provider of copy) to remove stuff. No explanation will be forthcoming - but look forward to reading about WI meetings and themed weddings.

The HT is well aware of issues surrounding a number of council directors but chooses to ignore them. Have you seen a website called Hereford Voice? It is a good source of opinion and fact about Hereford, the council and a lot of other issues.

Hereford Times are always removing comments, especially comments relating to the almighty Hereford Council. Hereford Council is more than likely the HT biggest source of income now as the newspaper stands are always still full of copies of hereford times, they just cant sell them anymore
I for one dont buy a copy after the 50% price increase. Plus i can read about how the fire brigade had to cool down a lorry Tyre using a bucket of water for Free online as it happens!

Breaking News:

Hereford times yet again lets down readers by removing relevant comments and concerns related to Herefordshire council.
People of hereford are forced to continue living under a dictatorship. ......

Not for much longer hopefully 2015 is coming around a lot faster than they would like!! And i dont think the people of Hereford are going to be very forgiving for the way we have been treated and ignored by the current administration

New Leaf have my vote.
Herefordshire council cabinet and their leading officers appear to be determined to do as much damage to our county as possible in their last year.
Queenswood and Bodenham Lake are valuable county assets and are not safe yet from the indiscriminate secret selling spree to boost the coffers to cover the deep financial doo doos the county is in!
