WORKING WEEK daytime bus services should not be cut, if some weekend and evening services can be cut instead, according to county-wide consultation carried out by Herefordshire Council.
Figures presented to Ledbury Town Council by Liz Harvey, a Herefordshire councillor for Ledbury, reveal that ,if the authority is faced with making "significant savings" in the present economic climate, some bus services should be given priority.
Out of the 1575 people who responded, 389 thought that Monday to Friday evening services could be "reduced or withdrawn"; but only 42 thought it was acceptable for Monday to Friday daytime services to be cut.
A total of 569 thought that Saturday evening services could be cut, and the figure rose to 837 respondents when it came to Sunday services.
But only 64 wanted to see Saturday daytime services cut.
Low importance was also given to Market Day services, where 351 people in the survey were in favour of cuts here; and 326 respondents placed low importance on maintaining "short hop" services around towns and cities in Herefordshire.
