A COMMUNITY learning centre based at Hereford Academy is to re-locate.

Pete Johnson, commercial director at the school, said that the Academy has had to subsidise its operation because the number of people using it had become very low.

Hereford Academy's board of directors and Herefordshire Council have since agreed in principle an alternative use for the space, which should bring in extra income for the school.

"We are currently discussing with Herefordshire Council and the existing tutors of our various classes to explore if they wish to continue to run their classes independently," said Mr Johnson.

"I am hoping that this is a possibility and they can continue to use our facility.

"Plans for future community engagement include hosting a community garden, a series of entertainment events during the winter, a repeat of our popular bingo evening and a number of junior football festivals.

"We will also continue to run workshops such as our social media awareness session aimed at parents.

"The Hereford Academy is very much committed to working with the local community and we are actively seeking to engage with individuals or organisations that can use our space at evenings, weekends and during the school holidays."
