PUPILS at Staunton-on-Wye Primary School are delighted that their efforts to protect the environment have gained them the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award for the sixth time. The Green Flag is awarded to schools who demonstrate a school-wide commitment to sustainability and is valid for two years. Recent projects that pupils have undertaken include a 'switch-off fortnight' to help families reduce their electricity usage, installing a pedal-powered water-pump to water the school garden, the design and sale of jute bags to reduce litter from plastic bags, raising money to buy fitness equipment and growing, eating, cooking and selling organic vegetables.
