YOUNG performers from around the county are preparing to put on a show – for a good cause.

The Circle of Life brings songs from many well-known musicals to Leominster's Earl Mortimer College next month.

The show, Circle of Life, will raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, in memory of one Leominster woman's dad.

Melissa Price, 25, has vowed to raise as much awareness of the deadly disease and as much money as possible for the charity trying to beat it.

She said: "In June 2011 my dad Paul Price was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

"We had never heard of the disease before and didn’t know what to expect. The next year was devastating and a complete shock as the disease took hold and he went downhill rapidly.

"After putting up one hell of a fight my dad died in November 2012, only 17 months after diagnosis at the age of just 54. It was then that my family and I knew something had to be done about MND."

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves in the brain and spinal cord.

It means messages gradually stop reaching muscles which leads to weakness and wasting.

It kills five people every day in the UK but has very little awareness and can affect anyone at any age.

In 2013, Miss Price and her family set up the Paul Price Foundation, holding one event every month of the year.

It included last year's musical theatre show Seasons of Love which raised £2,017 which brought the overall total for the year to more than £5,000.

But Miss Price, who now lives in Manchester but grew up in Leominster, is aiming to beat last year's total.

"The show is directed by myself and Steve Liddle who has just put his production of Les Miserables on at the courtyard in Hereford," she said.

"Last year was a sell out and we had to turn people away so we would advise people to get tickets as soon as possible if they'd like to come."

The event takes place on Saturday July 19 at Earl Mortimer College.

Tickets cost £8 for adults, £5 for children aged between five and 15 and are on sale in Trevor Davies Music Shop.
