PLANS are in place to celebrate the last 70 years of young farmers clubs in Herefordshire.

The Herefordshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs have on-going plans to mark the anniversary with a Platinum Ball on Friday August 1 at the home of the county president David Morgan and Helen Morgan and their two daughters, Tori and Hannah, at Penllan in Peterchurch.

The Platinum Ball will be an opportunity for many old friends to gather together and for them to remember all the happy times they have had in the young farmers clubs.

Amelia Illingsworth, county chairman, said: “It is a very special honour to be chairman of the Herefordshire Federation in its 70th year and we are very proud to see our membership holding up well considering there is such a wide range of activities available to young people nowadays when compared with the years gone by.

“The Young Farmers is still one of the best organisations to belong to and can offer members not only a wonderful social life but also some really great opportunities to learn new skills.”

David Morgan said his family are delighted to be hosting the Platinum Ball at Penllan.

“We are looking forward to welcoming many past members and friends as well as current members,” he said.

“August is a busy time in the farming world but we are hoping that everyone can manage to get a night off to come to Penllan to enjoy a fabulous night out,” he added.

The event will include a cold buffet and live band.

Dress code is black tie and tickets cost £40.

Limited tickets are available so it is a good idea to book up early to avoid disappointment.

Celebrations will continue on the Saturday at the chairman’s event in the form of a Mexican Beach Party where hopefully the weather will hold out to enable members to don their shorts and T-shirts, flip flops and sombreros to party the night away once again at Penllan.

Tickets for both events are available from the county office on 01432 274187.
