A DISABLED Hereford man is challenging himself to jump from more than 10,000 ft for charity.

Elliot Evans, who lives on Ferndale Road in the Kings Acre area of Hereford, is to jump from 13,000 ft in a tandem skydive for a good cause.

The 24-year-old ? who turns 25 this Sunday ? is raising money for Midlands Air Ambulance, in memory of a friend who was helped by the charity.

Mr Evans said: "I have done some fundraising previously but thought I should challenge myself to do a big thing. It's a 13,000 ft dive and I have never done it before."

Mr Evans, who has cerebral palsy, said the charity flew his friend to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Sadly, his friend died, but Mr Evans wants to say thank you to the charity's volunteers who did their best to save him.

"I'm feeling pretty nervous but confident," said Mr Evans, who is a volunteer at St Michael's Hospice' Home and Living Store on Holmer Road, Hereford.

"I'm hoping to raise ?1,000 but the more I can raise, the better."

He is preparing for the event by watching videos of other skydives and said his family and friends think he is "very brave" but "absolutely mad" to jump from such a height.

Elliot will complete the challenge over Salisbury Plain on July 25.
