RAIN certainly didn't stop play on Saturday, for the Ledbury Community Day, despite a few heavy downpours.

Throughout the morning and the afternoon, the best of Ledbury was on show and the town centre showed plenty of hustle and bustle, as locals and visitors alike turned out for the activities and attractions.

Event spokesperson, Jan Long said: "The Ledbury Community Day attracted hundreds of people.

"The rain gave way to warm sunshine and crowds spilled our onto the streets keen to visit the Butcher Row and Shambles Museums, the Burgage Hall and then along the shiny cobbles to St Michael’s Church."

She added: Town mayor, Coun Bob Barnes and his wife Carol were much in evidence, greeting stall holders in St Katherine’s, the Master's House and other venues throughout the town."

Organised tours allowed the curious to see inside the restored Master's House on St Katherine's car park, a building that will be the new town library and community hub next winter.

Visitors also had to the chance to visit their local fire station in Bye Street, where informative displays and exhibits were on show.

In the town centre, Ledbury Town Crier, Bill "The Bell" Turberfield was busy greeting visitors, announcing attractions and posing for photographs in his historic and colourful regalia.

Team organiser, Paul Kinnaird added that he was delighted with the turn out which gave Ledbury the opportunity to showcase its many talents and skills. He said: "Everyone agreed that the Community Day should become an annual event on the town's calendar."
