MADLEY'S Classic Vehicle Show and Drive time will be held on June 21 in the Glebe Field near Madley Church from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Last year there was a circular drive up to the Castlefields Country Inn near Hay-on-Wye for lunch and back to the village in time for the church fete. Tea and coffee will be available on arrival, and although there will be no entry fee, donations will be welcome and go towards village charities and the Midlands Air Ambulance. If you have any queries, feel free to phone either Colin Barratt on 01981 250108 or Dave and Joan Williamson 01981 250436.

The day looks like being a real treat for classic car enthusiasts because apart from the annual classic vehicle show on the Glebe Field, a major classic car touring event will be an added attraction. The Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation (HERO) Summer Trial which is based on the Celtic Manor Resort at Newport will be coming through Madley from about 9.30am. The event features classic cars from as early as 1947 and to date, an entry of 40 plus vehicles is expected. These range from Bentleys and Bristols to Austin Healey 3000s, Jaguar E-Types and many other familiar marques from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

The event covers the best part of three days so this is where the endurance part comes in for both cars and crews.

Cars will be approaching Madley from Batchy Hill down the Brampton Road and will then make a left turn at the cross-roads before heading to the delights of the Bridge Sollars Road. The crews are bound to welcome a positive response from villagers who should be assured that the vehicles will only be in touring mode and thus fully compliant with normal road regulations.

Organisers look forward to this day celebrating vehicles of the past which have been lovingly restored by their owners and are being used in an appropriate manner. Further details of this touring event can be found at www.heroevents.eu.
