Marden Gardeners Association

MANY thanks to June Poole for hosting a super club meeting on May 13, taking members through her speciality of growing ariculars. A wonderful display and very interesting to see how the plants were split to produce anything up to six smaller plants.

Congratulations to June for being awarded a silver medal at the Malvern Spring Show, and an award for Best Creative Floral Display. There was very successful plant sale on May 10. Thanks to those who contributed plants for the sale, to customers and especially to Carol and Stan for running the sale at their home.

The club garden visit for June will be to Stockton Bury Gardens at Kimbolton (northeast of Leominster on the A49) on June 11.This is a superb four-acre garden with an extensive collection of rare and unusual plants set among medieval buildings, a real kitchen garden, pigeon house, tithe barn, grotto, pools and ruined chapel. Entrance fee is £6 per head and members will car share to save costs, meeting in Marden school car park at 1pm.

Refreshments are available at the garden at an extra cost. Non members are very welcome to join in but please let Len Day know beforehand (01432 880657).

Visitors and new members to the gardening club are always welcome. If you would like to join in for a taster evening members normally meet every second Tuesday of the month in the community centre at 7.30pm. However, during June, July and August the group tend to go on garden visits so please keep an eye on the County Times in the Hereford Times . There will be a small charge for non- members, call Len Day on 01432 880657.

At the May meeting members discussed the current resolution regarding organ donations.

This was after having a brilliant resume of the current laws by president Gillian Clouder who has had first hand experience of organ donation and is a prime example of how well it all works.

Following discussions Mr Vincent Childerley who is an acupuncturist (as well as a paramedic) gave us an insight into this ancient procedure. Another good evening.
