BECKY Collins from Knighton is planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in August for Childreach International. In order to do this, she needs to raise enough money to cover expenses and contributions to the charity.

The climb is four and a half days up and a one and a half down trek to the summit of the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895m. Becky who is at Brunel University said "I will be doing the climb for Childreach International an amazing charity dedicated to helping children achieve basic human rights worldwide, such as a sustainable food source, education, safety, and a number of others. Sustainability is really the key word that the charity aims for. They have several projects around the world aiming for this target. One example would be helping provide a food source. Instead of simply giving food, the charity provides the tools and helps build farms as part of schools. I'm going on August 18 with 30 other students from Brunel University. All of us need to raise £2,650 by the end of June in order to go, a massive amount, 60% of which goes directly towards the charity. If we all manage to reach our targets, that is over £47,770 going straight to Childreach International".

Unfortunately a lot of students have dropped out because they have been unable to raise enough money for the first deadline. The remaining students now need all the support they can get. As well as doing fund raising activities including dares, bag-packing, carol singing, pub crawls, public collections and cake sales Becky has put all her earnings from the year into the charity.
