STAFF at a Hereford veterinary practice joined together to support a colleague in her battle against multiple sclerosis (MS).

Six veterinary nurses, a receptionist and three women who join Brookfield Veterinary Practice, at Old Eign Hill, on work experience took part in a Zipline Challenge at the National Diving and Activity Centre near Chepstow earlier this month.

They teamed up in support of fellow vet Amanda Kitching, who has been living with MS - a condition affecting the central nervous system - for more than 10 years.

Amanda, 41, said: "I hate heights, but once you're launched it's fine. I'm glad we did it for charity but I wouldn't do it for fun.

"Since my diagnosis, the staff at Brookfield have always been incredibly supportive. Some days are better than others. On my worst days the most I can manage to do all day is get out of bed to make a cup of tea. I really appreciate the help of staff, family and friends."

The event raised £3,600 for the Hereford branch of the MS Society, which Amanda also volunteers as membership secretary for.

"The MS Society do really good work so it's important to support the group," she said.

Amanda, who lives in Madley with husband, Matthew, is also planning to walk a marathon in October to raise money for the MS Society and the Hereford branch of Coeliac UK.
