POLICE want a say in what customers at a Hereford bar get to drink out of.

Shake and Stir, formerly Bar Spirit, in Gaol Street, faces a review of its licence after a violent incident inside earlier this month.

Details of the incident cannot be reported for legal reasons, but the police are applying for new licensing conditions that ensure all drinking vessels are polycarbonate or shatter proof and bottled drinks get decanted.

The review, due to end next month, will go to Herefordshire Council’s regulatory committee for a decision.

A police statement to the committee asks for Shake and Stir’s designated premises supervisor James Smith to be removed and for two SIA registered door supervisors to be employed at the premises from 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays - including one at the entrance from 9.30pm – with all door supervisors engaged on a “risk assessed” basis.

The police statement says the incident and the subsequent actions of Mr Smith had undermined the licensing objectives.
