HEREFORD RINGCRAFT CLUB MATCH – Was held in Bosbury parish hall on April 29. Mr Keith Lewis was the judge for the night and had his work cut out with the quality and the variety of the entrants. Mr Lewis has Irish and English setters and judged many different breeds in his time but there has to be winners and David and Carol Coode’s puppy bitch Warringah’s Perth did just that, with her not only getting best puppy but also best in match.
The best adult was Allison Matthew’s lovely little cocker spaniel Sonham Blue Diamond.
Very well deserved. Well done to both of those dogs and indeed all the dogs that took part in the match.
During the course of the evening a delicious buffet was served with tea and coffee. Handlers and dogs then took the opportunity to catch up with each other. A really lovely evening was had with all dogs being impeccably behaved.
Hereford Ringcraft Club meet every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm for training.

OPEN GARDENS DAY – On June 7 the villages of Bredwardine and Brobury are hosting an open day of gardens. Ten gardens will be open from 11am until 5pm and you are cordially invited to stroll through them. Tickets are in the form of a map which will guide you around the villages, indicating the location of all open gardens. These can be obtained throughout the day, from the orchard opposite The Red Lion, in Bredwardine, price £5 for adults, children free; the ticket entitles you to entry to all gardens, some of which will be selling refreshments. TRAHERNE FESTIVAL – Novelist Salley Vickers, who shot to fame after the success of her first novel, Miss Garnet’s Angelwill be speaking at this year’s Traherne Festival at Credenhill Church on June 21. Salley’s most recent novel, The Cleaner of Chartres , has also been a great success. She will be talking about the ‘other dimensions’ in her novels. The other speakers are John Powell Ward, poet and critic, who will be speaking about Traherne’s poetry, and Keith Williams, who will be making connections across the centuries between Traherne, the 17th-century poet and mystic, and Bonhoeffer, the German theologian hanged by Hitler for his involvement in the German resistance. NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN – Feedback and suggestions over this past year have enabled the steering group to write most of the first draft of the Neighbourhood Plan that will soon be on the website with a copy also available to view in Central Stores. Now the steering group needs to have locals understanding of, and support for, the complex issues of housing location and numbers, in order to complete the first draft.

FOOD BANKS – The church-led Community Larders project provides food to individuals and families in need referred to it by appropriate agencies. There has been a notable rise in demand across county’s Food Banks and thus increased donations are urgently needed. A volunteer co- ordinator described how a food parcel can sometimes be the difference between a family having an evening meal or not. Please donate non-perishable food which can be delivered to the Food Bank at Unit 5, 32 Aubrey Street Hereford between 10-noon and 1-3pm or to the Diocesan Office or daytime to St Michael’s Church, Ewyas Harold.

FLOWER FESTIVAL – On Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday the Eye Church Flower Festival will be held from 11am – 6pm. The flower theme this year is Kings and Queens.

FORGET-ME-NOT DAY – The Knighton Amnesty group will be celebrating Forget-Me-Not Day, which commemorates the founding of Amnesty International, with a ‘teabag tree’ at the market in the Knighton hotel car park on May 22. DONATION - On May 8, Susie Godwin, representing the Midlands Air Ambulance was presented with £1,033 donated by members and friends of Leominster Hearts in Action at their Thursday exercise class.
The exercise class is held every Thursday with a cardiac instructor at Bridge Street Sports Centre for people who have had heart problems. The cheque was presented by Norah Jordon and Ralph Hussey.
CONCERT - Don’t miss out on an evening of glorious choral and orchestral sounds this Saturday.
A concert of Vivaldi’s music in Leominster Priory Churchpromises to be very uplifting. This wonderfully rich music, including the ever-popular Gloria, is being performed by Leominster Choral Society, at 7pm. The chorus will be accompanied by Marches Baroque Band, conducted by James Atherton, musical director. The soloists will include the popular soprano Gemma King (née Busfield) from Ludlow. The other works include the Magnificat with its very descriptive sounds of those familiar words of the evensong canticle; also the psalm Dixit Dominusequally exciting to sing and hear.

Moor Meals, award winning, local suppliers of dexter beef, ready meals and pies.
Llandinabo Farm shop and Castle Cheese will be there with a variety of delicious meats and unusual cheeses. Mark will bring his own made, popular, award-winning chutneys and marmalades. Hereford and Mid Wales Philatelic Society
THE society met on May 7 when there was a talk and display on the Second World War postal history by Tony Tudor.
A vast amount of fascinating material was displayed including letters that were returned to sender at the beginning and during the war with the various cachets used, the sending of letters to hostile countries via Thomas Cook, the trouble which was taken to deliver letters, the comments of censors as to why a letter was not being posted, and even the delivery of letters after the end of hostilities. There were 20 members present and a vote of thanks was given by the president John Setchfield. The society meets at St Martin’s Parish Centre, Ross Road, Hereford, at 7.30pm, on the first Wednesday of each month.

Herefordshire Health Service Retirement Fellowship
THE next NHS Retirement Fellowship (HHSRF) meeting will be held on Wednesday, at 2pm, in the St John’s Methodist Hall, St Owen Street, Hereford. The guest speaker this month is Colin Javens, who will be giving his presentation called Driving Cissie Home . His talk promises to be good fun.
The new programme for 2014/15 will be available for members at the May meeting. The next organised social event is a visit to the cathedral gardens, in Hereford, on June 23, followed by an optional cream tea in one of the cathedral function rooms.

Huntington – Hereford WI
AT the May meeting members met three of the Hereford street pastors, Steve, Mike and wife Maggie, who are part of 38 volunteers who patrol the streets over the weekends looking after the young and old who may need a helping hand. Members of the church throughout the county and UK, they belong to the Ascension Trust. These brave people go out at 10pm to 4am and never know what they are going to encounter on their patrol.
Carrying with them a bag with water, first aid equipment, a warm blanket, a cushion and, most important of all, flip flops for those with lost or broken shoes, as well as a dustpan and brush to clear away broken glass.
Street pastors are all fully trained before they allowed out on the streets and in radio contact with the each other and the police should they need assistance. They praised the club/pub doormen for their help. Volunteers are badly needed, especially women. The NHS has found, due to their help, it is finding a big drop in numbers at A&E. Last year these brave people won a Pride of Hereford Award.
Old Radnor WI
THE May meeting of Old Radnor WI was an interesting one when Carole Bumford, from Landrindod Wells, brought along some of her doll collection. They were very different dolls, coming from many tribal countries of Africa, Asia, South America many countries once belonging to the USSR.
Carole had visited many of these countries in the hope of purchasing a doll in national costume.
Carole started collecting dolls 57 years ago when her mother bought her a doll in Welsh costume. Kath Thurgood thanked Carole for the interesting talk.
Carole judged the competition for the evening (a holiday memento) won by Anne Goodwin, second Ailsa Bufton, third Cecely Bayliss and fourth Sylvia Evens.
April and May had been a busy time for members, working hard for the spring fair and whist drive.
Both went well and were supported well by everyone. Philip Watkins was MC for for the evening at the whist drive. A donation will be given to the residents’ fund at Kington Court and other donations will be given locally at a later date. The WI spring show took place at Knighton on May 3.
Members did very well by coming seventh overall in the competitions. Business had been seen to, members had volunteered to take part in the annual quiz to be held at Crossgates later in the month.
Next meeting will be on June 3, at Walton village hall, at 7.30pm. £3 entry fee. Speaker will be Eric Rees on women in Welsh history.
Ross Rotary Club
THIS year marks 100 years of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland. Its origins go back to the formation of Rotary in Chicago in 1905, and led to the setting up of the first clubs on this side of the Atlantic in 1911. In 1914, these clubs came together and formed the new British Association of Rotary Clubs. Today known as Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI)l. With its partners, one of Rotary’s major achievements has been to reduce polio cases by 99 per cent worldwide since its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.
In 1985, Rotary International launched the PolioPlus programme to eradicate polio worldwide and it is close to achieving that goal.
