THREE MEN IN A BOW TIE - The infamous satirical singing group Three Men in a Bow Tie is celebrating 20 years in show business with a special 2014 tour, including a performance of their latest silly songs and manic monologues at Bridstow village hall on Saturday at 7.30pm.
The highly popular trio has now given 450 performances and played to 50,000 people in all sorts of odd places from opera houses to cowsheds. They’ve appeared on BBC 1 and in a BBC 2 special and at the Edinburgh, Ludlow, and Leominster festivals among others.
The performers are multi-instrumentalist, songbird and taleteller Sally Tong; broadcaster and raconteur Chris Eldon Lee; and satirical songwriter and madcap Shropshire dairy farmer Martin “Monologue” Jones. Joining the group for the show will be the amazing agricultural starlet, Freda the female farmer – who is infamous in her own field.
Their repertoire of largely self- penned material currently includes gems such as Pie in the Sky (the world’s first horsemeat lullaby); Fracking (about fracking) and The Pig With No Poke. Tickets are £8 per person, available by calling 01989 762086.
This will be the third time this trio has appeared at Bridstow village hall, and all will be welcome.
The wearing of bow ties by the audience is thoroughly encouraged.

FUNDRAISING FOR ST MICHAEL’S HOSPICE - 1st Burghill Brownies spent a day bag-packing at the Co-Op store in Bobblestock where the staff and customers are always extremely kind and very generous. The girls always chose a local charity to donate some of the money to, and the rest goes towards running the Brownie unit. This year they chose St Michael’s Hospice as the charity. On May 6, Mr Paddy Nugent came to talk to the girls about life at St Michael’s. He gave an enlightening talk and they learned a lot about how the hospice runs, how it gets its money, what goes on there every day and how so many people in the county support it. The girls had plenty of questions for him, including asking him how he got his job there, what was the largest sum of money raised, what was the most unusual fundraiser, how many people work there and many more.
The girls then ended the evening by presenting Paddy with a cheque for £200.
Thank you St Michael’s for all the amazing work you do and thank you Paddy for coming to tell the group all about it. Also thanks go to the girls for working so hard to raise the money and the staff and customers at the Co-Op for their continued support.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN - There’s a lot of work going on at the moment, preparing policies for the plan and reports to accompany it. The website has been updated with a summary and transcriptions of all the post-it notes from the option open days.
There are also paper copies in each village – Eardisley’s is in Central Stores. Watch for posters advertising the next open event when you should be able to decide about housing and look over the first draft of the plan.

STATION ADOPTER WANTED - Ted Conway once looked after Knucklas Railway Station and for many years the platform was covered in the most beautiful flowers. In later years Ted was unable to do so much but he always kept the station tidy and free of rubbish. Sadly Ted died not long ago and people in the village are now looking for someone to take over from him.
This year Arriva Trains (in association with the Heart of Wales Line Travel Association) have set up the Stations Gardens Project and are encouraging all the stations along the line to join in. They will support financially toward flowers and planters if necessary, as long as details are cleared with them in advance.
They are looking for someone (or a group of people) to look after the station and make it look beautiful again. The Castle Inn has offered to support by supplying flowers and planters, Colin Evans will provide some large tractor tyres and soil and the Knucklas Castle Land Project and Knucklas community centre have offered to help too. PLANT SALE - Wigmore and District gardening club is holding its annual plant sale on Sunday 2pm-4pm in Wigmore village hall (HR6 9UW). The sale will include vegetable plants, bedding plants and substantial shrubs and perennials.
Tea and home-made cakes will also be available with friendly club members willing to offer advice.
All proceeds to be shared between the club, the Air Ambulance, the Renton Unit and St Michael’s Hospice.
MAKE-UP TALK - In her talk for women ‘of a certain age’, a BAFTA-winning make-up artist will explain how the right make- up correctly applied can help you look your best. The art of off-stage make-up is to achieve a natural, healthy look that isn’t too made up. It’s not about looking younger, it’s about looking good for your age. Bush Bank Flower Club
BUSH Bank flower club invites you to come to see Marie Munday from the Gloucester area on Tuesday with her demonstration entitled Let’s Go to the Movies.
This promises to be a colourful and fun-packed evening.
Doors open at Canon Pyon village hall at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and as usual there will be a raffle for the flower arrangements and refreshments will be served afterwards.
All are welcome to attend the evening, visitors £8 and a donation from the evening will be given to the Children’s Hospice.
The Inner Wheel Club of Hereford Wye Valley
MEMBERS of the Inner Wheel Club of Hereford Wye Valley are joining in the Association’s Wheels Project in Great Britain and Ireland to mark the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Inner Wheel organisation.
To commemorate the occasion, clubs across the country have been asked to donate some type of wheeled item to benefit their local communities.
Hereford Wye Valley members are donating a specially-adapted tricycle to the pupils at Blackmarston Special Needs Primary School in Hereford, the presentation will be made by president Pat Hooper and the members at a school assembly.
Inner Wheel is one of the largest women’s organisations in the world with over 100,000 members in 103 countries, and 2014 marks the anniversary of the organisation’s 90 years of friendship, fellowship and voluntary service.
The Hereford Wye Valley Club was chartered in 1983 and currently has 42 members, who meet monthly at The Bay Horse Inn.
As well as a good social programme of events, members give service locally as well as raising funds to support many charities both at home and overseas.

Knighton and District Rotary Club
LAST month gave mixed fortunes for the club.
The dance evening with the talented Rhythm Thieves sadly made a small loss due to lack of attendees, although those who did go along had a great time.
Members were disappointed as they wanted to raise money for the many charities and local projects they support.
However members enjoyed seeing some new faces from Hereford and surrounds and really appreciated their support of the club.
On a lighter note, members had a sociable steak and bowls evening at the end of the month and listened to fascinating speaker Anthony Rowland the week before.
The stories he told members of his life could make a TV series.
So members roll with the punches and look forward to continuing the good works unabashed. And remember that all the money raised goes to the chosen charities, as the running costs are covered by club membership.

Marden History Society
THE next Marden History Society meeting will take place on Monday at 7.45pm in the community room at Marden School.
There will be a presentation of two short films from the Huntley Film Archives.
Firstly, a portrayal of British Life in the 1960s with a travelogue of places to visit in the UK with full commentary of the era. Secondly, Stonehenge, a prehistoric site believed to have been erected around 3000BC.
This is a dated version with theories as believed at the time of filming. Leonard Nemoy (Spock of Star Trek) is one of the speakers. Refreshments will be served during an interval.
The cost to non-members will be £2 each, payable at the door.
Weobley and District Gardening Society
THE Weobley and District Gardening Society held its annual Spring Show at Hopelands.
The show was very well attended with a great display of spring flowers and tulips.
The prizewinners were: The Cheryl Evans Perpetual Shield for most points overall was awarded to Anne Cole. 2nd place Tibb Richardson.

Knighton Scout Annual General Meeting
THE Knighton Cub Scout AGM was held in the church hall, Knighton on May 2. Everyone was welcomed to the meeting by chairman Val Smith who also thanked all for coming. The treasurer Joy Burgin reported that there had been a slight increase in donations and although the group hadn’t made money in the year it had not lost any either. Joy said the group is hoping to increase its income in the next year because new leader Vikki has been working very hard and has already started to raise some extra funds. Next was the secretary Pat Biggs’s report. Pat said the year had been successful with cubs taking part in lots of activities including making rockets and having a rocket race, making bird boxes, taking part in the swimming gala, going to camp, and decorating their Christmas tree.
Next followed the election of officers.
It was proposed that the three officers stayed the same as last year and everyone agreed.
The committee was delighted to welcome new leader Vikki Town and the three new young helpers Izzy Brick, Ellie Griffiths and Bethany Mills who are all very busy doing their young leader training.
