WITH all eyes on Rio this summer, get into the carnival spirit a little closer to home at the Presteigne Carnival on July 19.

The flamboyant floats and fancy-dressed will form a procession through the town, leaving John Beddoes Yard at 1pm and making their way to Wents Meadow where there will be whole host of activities on offer, and live music in the evening.

Local radio celebrity Trevor Owens will officially open the carnival at 1.30pm, and crown carnival queen Ellie Niblock.

Entrance to any of the nine different fancy dress classes – and entering a float – is free of charge, with prizes of up to £50 awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

And, with no official theme, you can let your imagination run wild when it comes to decorating your float or yourself.

At Wents Meadow there is quite literally fun for all the family; with everything from bouncy castles to ‘The Great Presteigne Bake Off’.

Food and refreshments – including a bar – will be available throughout the day and into the evening, when local bands will entertain the crowds.

Admission for those not in fancy dress will be £2.50, although all under 16s are free.
