HEREFORDSHIRE residents can turn out to honour troops who have bravely served the country.

Hundreds of serving and former military personnel will turn out for a parade through Hereford to mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday June 28.

The day is an annual event celebrating and honouring the armed forces community across the county and country.

The Hereford event will be focussed around The Shirehall and Cathedral Close, and will feature displays, stalls, exhibitions, book signings and entertainment between 10am and 3pm.

The parade through the city centre takes place at 2.20pm as part of the Royal British Legion's annual county rally.

Troops will march along Broad Street to Hereford Cathedral for Evensong. They will then march back to High Town where they will salute Lady Darnley, the Lord-Lieutenant for Herefordshire, in Broad Street en route.

Councillor Peter Sinclair-Knipe, chairman of the Civilian Military Task Group, said: “The people of Herefordshire continue to show unstinting and loyal support to our armed services and this is a day when we can all remember the work and dedication of those who have served and are still serving.

“This year is made all the more significant as we begin to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War. We hope as many people as possible will turn out to the events and watch this wonderful parade to show their support for the men and women who choose to serve their country in our armed forces.”
