LEOMINSTER resident Gwen Radnor received a card from the Queen recently to mark her 100th birthday.

Family and friends gathered at her home on April 24 to celebrate the big day together.

Gwen was born on April 24 1914, the fifth child of Mary and Edward Harris, and she went to school in Dilwyn. The family moved to Eardisland when Gwen was 10. From the age of 14, Gwen worked in service for three families in Eardiston, Norfolk, Worcester and later in Presteigne.

Gwen married Charles Thomas (known as Jack) in November 1936 and later had three children: Eileen, David and the late John. The family lived in Dilwyn. Sadly, Jack died in 1972. Gwen moved to Leominster in 1974 and married her second husband Dennis in 1980. Dennis passed away in 2001.

Age appears no barrier to Gwen, and she still enjoys pottering about in the garden.

The birthday celebrations were topped off with a party for family and friends in Dilwyn on April 27.
