A SINGER recently heard on not one, but two, no 1 singles, will be playing The Jailhouse next week.

Jess Glynne's vocals feature on the chart topping Rather Be by Clean Bandit, and My Love by Route 94, building excitement for the release of her debut solo single.

Jess is brought to the Hereford club by Transmission Music Group headed by former Hereford College of Arts graduate, Joe Schiavon.

Recalling how it all started, Jess points to the evening in 2003 that her parents came home from a night Pizza Express's regular jazz night with a signed CD: “It had such a profoundly immediate effect on me,” remembers Jess of her parents playing Amy Winehouse’s debut album, Frank.

“I’d always loved the big pop vocals of Mariah, Beyoncé and Whitney, but hearing a woman’s voice that was basically a jazz vocal, so full of individuality?

"Then realising she was British and still a teenager? That was the moment I knew I wanted to be as singer too.”

Jess’s debut album will be out later this year, preceded by live shows this summer: “I know that I’m one of a number of British girls to release this year,” says Jess. “But I’m confident in who I am. What makes me different is my experiences, my personality, my songwriting. I’ve had different life experiences, like we all have, and all of that makes me who I am.”

Jess Glynne will be at The Jailhouse on Monday, May 5.

Doors open from 8pm and Jess is expected on stage from around 10pm.

Tickets, £5, on the door.
