THE speaker for April at Huntington-Hereford WI was Alex (Alexandra) James co-owner of Broadfield Court, Bodenham with husband Mark, where they not only produce wine from their own vineyards but also run the estate as a working farm.

The court now has a lovely café open to the public and facilities for weddings and functions and of course a tour of the vineyard and wine tasting, which Alex talked about. Before her marriage Alex was a professional actress and performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company here and abroad, plus many other stage roles.

She is also famous for being one of the stars of the Channel 4’s programme Jungle Janes where a group of 12 service men's wives were left in the Borneo jungle after undergoing an SAS ultimate jungle training course.

They took 17 days to trek their way out and having to survive as best the could on their own, but with back-up not far away if they got into deep trouble. Her account of Life Before and After Broadfield held the members in absolute rapture, with her witty and outgoing personality. No one wanted her talk to end.

An afternoon outing has been arranged for May 22 to the Aberdulais Tin Works and Waterfalls near Neath Port.

Once again, Huntington-Hereford won the Herefordshire Federation WI quiz. Previously, members had won three years on the trot, then after a year's break they were winners again in 2013, now taking the crown yet again this year, entering different team combinations each year.
