AFTER 44 years' service in the NHS Jane Roberts has retired from her post as health visitor in the communities of Knighton and Presteigne.

Jane started her local career as a midwife in 1976 based at the old Knighton hospital and later became ward sister.

In 1979 she trained to become a health visitor and returned to Powys to work in the community.

She has also been a relief midwife and school nurse. A party was held at the Knighton hotel to celebrate her retirement.

Everyone Jane had worked with was invited making a grand reunion for Jane and many of the guests. Jane said “ I have had a very happy career and been privileged to work with some great colleagues and families in the community.

I now aim to enjoy my leisure time visiting my friends and family as well as continuing my Girl Guiding commitments and travelling.”

At the party health visitor Vicky Carter said “When I think of professionalism, diligence, hard work, likeability and respect I think of Richard Branson; when I think of Jane I am truly lost for words.

Over the years she has built up relationships with her clients and is respected by all those she works with. She has been working in this community for over two generations and will be missed by all those who she came into contact with." She finished by saying “I would like to thank Jane and wish her all the best or her well deserved retirement."

Instead of gifts Jane asked for donations and was able to donate money to two local charities. She gave £180 to the Knighton and Presteigne Leg Club and £200 to a local parenting group.

Jane thanked everyone for helping her celebrate her retirement and for their generous donations.
