JACK Gillum has been selected to take up the position of the new Youth Representative on Knighton town council. Seventeen year old Jack will attend his first town council meeting on April 16.

Jack lives in Knighton, went to Knighton Primary School and then John Beddoes school and is now in the sixth form at Lady Hawkins school in Kington.

He has been a member of Powys Youth Forum since he was fourteen years old and is a member of Funky Dragon the children and young people's assembly for Wales. Jack is the 2014 Welsh Representative on the UK youth select committee.

This role has meant a visit to the UK Parliament. Jack is hoping to have a career in politics. His position on Knighton town council had been possible following a Welsh Government initiative to help young people to get their voices heard.

Jack will be representing people from 11 to 26 years old and now would like to hear from young people in the area to discuss their issues and ideas so that he can put them forward at the next council meeting.

Jack said "I am really looking forward to representing the youth of Knighton on the local town council and am now waiting to hear young people's views and ideas so I can bring them to the attention of Knighton town council members at their next meeting".
