THE fencing of a new housing development in Gorsley will be showing off the creative talent of local school children as well as teaching passers-by about the dangers of a building site.

Children at Gorsley Goffs primary school have designed building site safety posters to be put on the fencing of the new Linton Wood Meadow development, which is down the road from the Herefordshire school.

The children were encouraged to take part in the competition, organised by local building contractor, J Harper and Sons and Newent-based not-for-profit housing association, Two Rivers Housing, after learning about building site dangers in an assembly presented to them by H and G Construction Safety Association.

As well as seeing their artwork enlarged and put on the fence of the Two Rivers development for all to see, the three winners, received book vouchers, goody bags and certificates.

Pete Lane, design and technical manager at Two Rivers Housing presented the winners and runners up with their prizes. He said: "Building sites can look like a fun place to play for children, but they are very dangerous. We have tried to instil in the children the importance of keeping out of these hazardous areas, but have also taught them about what happens on the sites and what protective equipment builders wear."

Linton Wood Meadow, which is due for completion later this year, will provide ten much-needed affordable energy-efficient homes to the village. Priority for the homes will be given to people with local connections, and as they are available for affordable rent and shared ownership, it gives local young people the opportunity to stay in the rural community they have grown up in.

Two Rivers Housing is an independent not-for-profit community organisation providing quality affordable homes for communities in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. www.tworivershousing.org.uk.
